Requirements

Requirements for Progression to the Upper-Division Major
  1. Completion of at least 52 semester hours
  2. A cumulative FSU grade point average of at least 2.0 on all college work attempted
  3. Successful completion of 1st & 2nd GE English and 1st & 2nd GE Math coursework
Major Program of Study:

Required total of 44 hours. This is the total combined hours of your core coursework (12 hours) and major specific coursework (32 hours).

Community college courses may not be substituted for 3000/4000 level courses. All courses must be completed with a grade of C minus or better and a minimum GPA of 2.00 in courses used to satisfy the major requirements.

Oral Communication Competency
3 hours are required beyond major coursework. Students must demonstrate the ability to orally transmit ideas and information clearly. This requirement may be met with a University approved college-level course.

*Students may not pursue a minor in hospitality management if they are pursuing a major in hospitality & tourism management, global club management & leadership, or event management. Students are also prohibited from pursuing a second major in hospitality and tourism management or event management if they are pursuing a major in global club management & leadership.

Mapping

Mapping is FSU’s academic advising and monitoring system. Academic progress is monitored each Fall and Spring semester to ensure that students are on course to earn their degree in a timely fashion. Additional Information/Requirements
  1. Global Club Management and Leadership majors must complete 3 months of approved internship. Internships must be pre-approved by the DCH Career Services Coordinator, Danielle DiBattista.

  2. Global Club Management and Leadership majors are required to complete a Global Component to include one of the following: International Internship, Study Abroad Experience with FSU International Programs, a Domestic Internship with a Multinational Corporation, or the completion of a Global Citizenship Certificate.

  3. Attendance and/or participation in a minimum of 6 industry events is required. These may include but are not limited to: Club Management Association of American (CMAA) National Student Conference, CMAA World Conference, PGA Merchandise Show, CMAA FSU Student Chapter Club Tour Events, and FSU Dedman College Leadership Summit.

  4. Global Club Management and Leadership majors are required to be members of the Club Management Association of America upon being formally admitted to major.

  5. Global Club Management and Leadership majors are required to complete a digital capstone portfolio that includes internship documentation, CMAA involvement, industry engagement and activities, international experience, an internship reflection essay, and work-related photos.

  6. In addition to the requirements outlined above, each student must complete all University-wide requirements for graduation. These requirements include CoreFSU requirements, the summer school requirement, the FSU residency requirement, and total hours requirements.

  7. Students needing elective hours to satisfy the University 120 total hours requirement are encouraged to take additional courses from the list of hospitality electives that are taught in the Dedman College beyond the semester hours required.

  8. Not all courses are taught every semester. It is crucial that students work with their Dedman College academic advisor to plan their future course schedules to ensure timely degree completion.

  9. The college offers several international opportunities for students including study abroad, global exchanges, and international internships. Learn more about the international opportunities offered through the Dedman College of Hospitality.

  10. Students must not enroll in any course at another institution without first receiving approval from the Dedman College. Once enrolled at FSU, students should plan to take their Hospitality courses at FSU. Any exception to this policy must be approved in advance by the Dedman College. Transfer of upper-level Hospitality courses completed prior to enrolling at FSU must be from other 4-year, accredited institutions. These courses must be approved for course substitution by the Dedman College upon entering FSU.
