Major in Event Management
The major in Event Management is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary in the dynamic and fast-paced event planning industry. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including event planning and coordination, marketing and promotion, budgeting and financial management, and the use of technology in event management. Students also have opportunities to gain hands-on experience through internships and real-world projects, working closely with industry professionals. Graduates are prepared to thrive in a dynamic field that encompasses conferences, festivals, weddings, sports events, corporate meetings, and large-scale community gatherings.

Requirements
Admission Requirements to the Upper-Division Major
- Completion of at least 52 semester hours;
- A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 on all college work attempted;
- Successful completion of 1st & 2nd GE English and 1st & 2nd GE Math coursework
Major Program of Study (43 hours)
Students must earn a C minus or better and a minimum GPA of 2.00 in courses used to satisfy the Event Management major requirements.
Community college courses may not be substituted for 3000/4000 level courses. All courses must be completed with a grade of C minus or better and a minimum GPA of 2.00 in courses used to satisfy the major requirements.

*All majors must complete a minimum of 3 hours of HFT 3941 (Internship). Students in the event management major must have a total of 9 credit hours between HFT 3941 and elective requirements. Students may complete additional credit hours (up to 12) and use up to 6 of those credits as substitutes for elective requirements. This means that if 9 hours are put towards HFT 3941, 0 hours of electives are required under major coursework.

*Required Work Experience
Students must complete at least 1,000 hours of work experience in the hospitality industry. The work experience must be completed at the post-secondary level. Students must register for HFT 4941 (Field Study in Hospitality Administration) in their final semester or in the semester in which they will complete the 1,000 hours.
Students are required to complete at least 3 credit hours of Management Internship (HFT 3941r) as part of their work experience.
Electives
Majors in event management must have a total of 9 credit hours between HFT 3941 and elective requirements. Students can complete additional credit hours of HFT 3941 and use them as substitutes for elective requirements.
Not all electives are offered every semester/year.

**Students may not pursue a minor in hospitality management if they are pursuing a major in hospitality & tourism management or a major in global club management & leadership.

Mapping
Mapping is FSU’s academic advising and monitoring system. Academic progress is monitored each Fall and Spring semester to ensure that students are on course to earn their degree in a timely fashion. Additional Information/Requirements
- Event Management majors must complete 1,000 hours of work experience in the event industry at the post-secondary level. Students must report hours to the DCH Career Services Coordinator and register in HFT 4941: Work Experience in the semester that they will complete all 1,000 work hours.
- Students are required to complete an Internship(s) for academic credit (HFT 3941) through the Dedman College as part of their work experience. At least 3 credit hours must be earned to fulfill the academic internship requirement. The hours worked during the Internship(s) will also count toward the required 1,000 hours of work experience. - In addition to the requirements outlined above, each student must complete all University-wide requirements for graduation. These requirements include CoreFSU requirements, the summer school requirement, the FSU residency requirement, and total hours requirements.
- Students needing elective hours to satisfy the University 120 total hours requirement are encouraged to take additional courses from the list of hospitality electives that are taught in the Dedman College beyond the semester hours required.
- Not all event management courses are taught every semester. It is crucial that students work with their Dedman College academic advisor to plan their future course schedules to ensure timely degree completion.
- The college offers several international opportunities for students including study abroad, global exchanges, and international internships. Students can learn more at: dedman.fsu.edu/international.
- Students must not enroll in any course at another institution without first receiving approval from the Dedman College of Hospitality. Once enrolled at FSU, students should plan to take their Hospitality courses at FSU. Any exception to this policy must be approved in advance by the Dedman College. Transfer of upper-level Hospitality courses completed prior to enrolling at FSU must be from other 4-year, accredited institutions. These courses must be approved for course substitution by the Dedman College upon entering FSU.
