The FSU Dedman College of Hospitality is delighted to announce Frank J. Del Rio, President and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH), as the esteemed recipient of the 2023 Cecil B. Day Ethics Award. The award was presented at NCLH headquarters on March 14th, with Del Rio graciously accepting the honor on behalf of his devoted team.

A proud representative of his Cuban heritage, Del Rio was joined by his family, including his wife Marcia, son Frank Jr. and wife, and daughter Christina and husband, who gathered to celebrate his achievements. The award was presented by Brandon Day, Cecil B. Day's grandson, Dr. Nathan Line, Cecil B. Day Distinguished Professor, and Robert “Bob” Brymer, Cecil B. Day Distinguished Professor Emeritus.

Established in 2007 by Cecil B. Day's son Clint Day, the Cecil B. Day Ethics Award is conferred annually by the Dedman College of Hospitality to a distinguished hospitality industry leader who exemplifies ethical leadership. Cecil B. Day was renowned for his unwavering commitment to faith-based values and treating all individuals with dignity and respect. After launching the first Days Inn in 1970, he expanded the business to over 300 locations in the U.S. and Canada before his passing.

Frank J. Del Rio, a respected veteran with over 25 years of experience in the cruise industry, has led Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings with a focus on delivering exceptional financial results and guest experiences. Under Del Rio's guidance, the company has expanded its fleet with innovative ships, introduced a new island destination in Harvest Caye, Belize, and significantly strengthened its global footprint.

Prior to his current role, Del Rio served as Chairman and CEO of Prestige Cruise Holdings, Inc., overseeing both Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. He founded Oceania Cruises in 2002, creating a new "upper premium" market space in the cruise industry, and later led a successful turnaround of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, positioning Prestige Cruise Holdings as the premier operator of upscale cruise brands.

Born in Havana, Cuba, Del Rio emigrated to the United States at the age of six. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Florida and is a Certified Public Accountant. His dedication to excellence and commitment to ethical leadership make him a deserving recipient of the Cecil B. Day Ethics Award, and the Dedman College of Hospitality is proud to honor his accomplishments.
